Restraining Orders

A restraining order, or a protective order, is a court order that can protect someone from being physically or sexually abused, threatened, stalked or harassed.

A Domestic Violence Retraining Order (DVRO) is a civil court order signed by a judge that orders the abuser to stop the abuse or face serious legal consequences. A domestic violence restraining order protects both female and female victims.

In California, domestic violence is defined as when a current or former spouse, boyfriend or girlfriend, someone yo  have a child in common with  or someone you live with, or someone you are related to through blood or marriage does any of the following acts:

  • Causes or attempts to cause you physical injury
  • Sexually assaults you
  • Makes you fear that you or someone close to you is in immediate danger of physical harm
  • Molests, attacks, strikes, batters r stalks you
  • Threatens to harasses you, directly or indirectly through email or phone
  • Destroys your personal property
  • Disturbs your peace (Family Code  §§ 6203; 6320(a))
